The article deals with the problems associated with the formation of new categories of Russian language — compound names, motivated by anti-COVID-19 measures. Based on the analysis of extensive factual material (texts of bylaws, media articles, messages from Internet forums), the authors make an attempt to create an up-to-date functional-thematic classification of compound names of the period of forced self-isolation to identify specific implementations of the semantics of set combinations, and to define the function of compound names as “markers of situation”. It is concluded that the observation of the formation and functioning of the compound names of the period of struggle with COVID-19 gives the linguist an exceptional opportunity to “in motio” consider each element of the mechanism of phraseologization of the meaning, to accurately identify the stages of “rebirth” of the features of phrasal components in combinations.
