The androgenic theory of COVID-19 pathogenesis explains the more severity of illness and higher mortality rate in men, which is consistent with the pathogenesis of other viral diseases. Androgenic hormones can play a critical role in the viral entry, the development of the immune response and inflammation. It is established that patients with prostate cancer who received androgen-deprivation therapy have a significantly lower risk of SARS-Cov-2 infection compared to non-cancer patients. These data can provide theoretical foundations for assessment of the clinical efficacy of antiandrogenic drugs used in the prevention and treatment of COVID-19.
